Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller
Born 1913 in Denmark

Since his birth, Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller's work and achievements have spanned most of the 20th century and indeed the globe. He has led the development of Denmark's largest business enterprise and has extended its operations to create a truly international corporation with Danish roots.
For the Danish American community it is a source of particular pride that the A.P. Møller Group has been so active and successful in the United States, where A.P. Møller/Mærsk Line recently acquired Sea-Land International from CSX Corporation, creating a major American component of the world's largest container shipping line. A huge percentage of U.S. imports and exports are handled daily by the Company's container terminals and shipping services in every major port, from coast to coast. The A.P. Møller Group, in an important partnership with Texaco, also operates in the field of oil and gas resources in the North Sea.
Mr. Møller's style and values are reflected in the global achievements of the A.P. Møller Group and have made him a respected leader of international stature. He has been an articulate and consistent advocate of our democratic free market system and an outspoken friend of the United States over many decades. Mr. Møller was based in New York for seven years from 1940, when he worked under the most testing wartime conditions to protect the interests of his company. During this period he was the driving force behind the shipping line's support of the American and Allied war efforts. History in some ways repeated itself when Mærsk vessels were again, many years later, at the disposal of the Pentagon during the Gulf War.
Mr. Møller has won the respect and friendship of Americans. He was for many years a member of IBM's board of directors and the International Council of Morgan Guaranty Trust Company. In 1991 he was awarded the Peace and Commerce Medal by the U.S. Government.
