| In June 1983, The Society established DANCE with the purpose of aiding young performing artists of both countires. This program brings young
Danish artists to United States and sends young American artists to Denmark for training. DANCE awarded it's first scholarship in 1984, a remarkable feat
to accomplish is such a short space of time. DANCE is today the largest continuous cultural exchange between Denmark and the United States. |
| Neel Resling Halpern and Edward Michaelsen founded the program with inspiration from Frank Andersen and Peter Martins. Mrs. Halpern guided this
successful program until 1996 when Bent Olrik took over as Chairman, developing the concept further. Mrs's Halperns daughter Lisa Resling Halpern leeds
the program today together with Hanne Hochheim. |
| Through the years more than 80 (as of 2006) young artists from Denmark and United States have crossed the Atlantic Ocean to further their
education, repertoire and artistic skills by studying in a foreign country under the expert guidance of world renowned artists. During their
training, the scholarship students have the opportunity to meet other artists, share experiences, learn new and different techniques, make friends
and enhance their general cultural background. It is The Society's hope this will manifest in greater performances by these young artists. |
