October 4th, 2006 - Email excerpt from Hannah Reid: Here is my report on Denmark. I had an amazing time, thank you so much for everything! Thanks again, Hannah Reid |

| When I first arrived in Denmark I felt very lost and a bit confused; I felt out of place. But the next day we had ballet
class, and I felt right at home! The other dancers were so friendly and welcoming, and the class, un-like most things in Denmark, was the same. |
| These past six weeks have been amazing, and I feel so privileged to have been given this opportunity. After the first week, I fell in
love with København. I couldn´t wait to go to class each morning and explore the city in the afternoon. |
| One the third day we had a Bourneville style class. This was very tricky for me because I haven´t ever had Bourneville before; but
seeing the other dancers, who had mastered this style helped me see that it was at least possible! It was very exciting to learn the style
that has made the Royal Danish Ballet famous. |
| Each ballet teacher had something different to teach and each brought a unique style to the class. The company members were always
so happy to be in class and the environment was so positive. Each day on our way to the Theater, Alies and I, walked past a Castle and many
beautiful canals. Everything there is so beautiful and picturesque. Sadly my camera broke the second week I was there, but I was so entranced
by the beauty during the first week that I took so many pictures, I think I made up for it! |
| One of my fondest memories in Denmark was the Canal Tour that we took one beautiful Sunday afternoon; we went all around København and
saw many of the famous land marks. A few things we passed by were the new Opera House, the Little Mermaid, and the Royal Family´s Winter
Palace. |
| We were lucky in the fact that the company was performing Requiem, in the Opera House, while we were there and so we were able to go
inside on many different nights. It was such a pretty place when it was all lit up. Seeing the company perform was such a treat! My favorite
ballet, La Syphlide, was performed the last week we were in town, I was able to see it a total of four times, including the dress rehearsals
we were able to watch! It was amazing to see how graceful the Bourneville style is on stage, it was beautiful. |
| I´m not sure I can put into words how much I loved Denmark, and how thankful I am to be given this opportunity. Thank you so much! This
experience was something I´ll never forget. |
