Danish American Nationals Cultural Exchange (DANCE) promotes Cultural Exchange between Denmark and the United States.
In 1983 the Danish American Society established DANCE as a scholarship exchange to help young performing artists. Since then more than 75 young artists from Denmark and the USA have crossed the Atlantic Ocean to further their education and artistic skills by studying in a foreign country under the expert guidance of often world renowned artists.
The DANCE exchange program, created by Frank Andersen, Ted Michaelson and Neel Resling Halpern, was inspired by Peter Martins, the Ballet Master in Chief of the New York City Ballet and Chairman at the School of American Ballet (SAB). Many young talented dancers from The Royal Danish Theater's Ballet School, Martha Graham Dance Company and the SAB in New York have felt that their DANCE Scholarship was a great help in furthering their dancing careers.
Apart from the training the young artists receive through the DANCE scholarship, they meet other young artists, share experiences, make friends and contacts for life and enhance their general cultural background.
The DANCE Scholarships have in the past been granted mostly to Dancers. However, the scholarship is available to other young performing artists from both Denmark and the USA.
